How to prepare for the video job interview?

You may have already received an e-mail invitation to the video interview. Click the link to open the video interview page. You will be asked just for your name and phone number. When the employer uses the Recright video interview tool, you will be able to take your time and listen to the questions as many times as you wish.

Remember that the video interview is like a regular interview. It's not just what you say, it's how you say it, and how your personality stands out. So put on some clean clothes, and look into the mirror before the interview. But don't stress it too much, or overdo it. A tuxedo may not be required :)

Environment

Record your job interview answers in a fairly quiet environment where you will not be disturbed. Ensure that there's enough light, and that the background is clean.

If you want to look your best on the camera, place the camera on your eye level or even slightly above. Play your first recording before sending it to ensure the sound and picture come through OK.

The first time you record, the Flash plugin in your web browser will probably ask for a permission to access your webcam. Click "Allow" and "Remember".

Plan & Practice

Some video interview tools force you to answer immediately after seeing the question text or watching the question video. Others allow you to record and send the answers in your own pace.

If the video interview tool allows you to think before you record, use it to your benefit. Watch the questions several times, and plan your answers carefully. You can even have a cheat-sheet for your answers, but it's better to answer without one if possible. Just be natural, and be yourself.

Don't worry if you don't look or sound perfect - what matters is getting the message through, and bring out your personality.

How to behave in front of the camera?

One simple rule: Be yourself. Try not to adapt a "camera personality" that's far from who you truly are. This makes you seem natural, and also confident. It gives a realistic impression of you and the company to the interviewee.

The technical stuff

It's easy to respond to a video interview: You'll need a computer equipped with a webcam, and a connection to the Internet. You'll also need Adobe Flash plugin installed.

Almost every modern laptop has an integrated webcam. If you don't have one, you can get one for $10-$20 from a nearby electronics store.

We also support modern mobile devices, see detailed requirements from here.

If you don't have a computer, you can make the interview using your friend's computer, or one at the local library or employment office.

If you have any technical issues, feel free to contact us at support(at)recright.com
And in general, should you have any questions, comments, anything, reach out to us via e-mail.
